The MLB trade deadline is fast approaching, with teams looking to improve their standing for a postseason run having until 6 p.m. ET Monday to make a move. A few trades have so far trickled in, including Boston's acquisition of Curtis Mead, which backfired immediately when he sustained a fractured wrist in his first game with the Red Sox.But the fates of the biggest names on the block — most notably two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal — remain uncertain. The Yankees, Red Sox, Braves, Phillies and Cubs are among the top potential buyers on the market.Skubal, however, was not the Tigers pitcher in the news Friday. Ahead of his scheduled start Friday, Casey Mize was scratched by the team. It's unclear whether Mize was scratched because a deal is imminent or the team is merely playing it cautious ahead of the deadline. Mize was not scratched due to an injury. He is now slated to start his next game for the Tigers on Tuesday, the day after the deadline.The Tigers are the biggest wild card as they decide whether to pursue their long-shot playoff hopes or painfully part with Skubal.
