4 Seattle teens arrested after NE Portland gas station shooting, linked to more crimes

Police arrested four teenagers from Seattle following a gas station shooting in Northeast Portland on Friday morning, saying members of the group were linked to a string of other violent crimes. According to police, several suspects with guns robbed the convenience store at the 76 station on Northeast Broadway at about 4:45 a.m. Friday. During the robbery, another employee went into the convenience store, and a struggle ensued. He was rushed to a hospital trauma center and is expected to survive, police said. Evidence at the gas station helped detectives link this case to other crimes earlier this week. The suspects drove off after the shooting, and police officials shared vehicle descriptions with officers, including those on the bureau's Focused Intervention Team and the Enhanced Community Safety Team. Police located the suspect vehicles near Northeast MLK Jr. Boulevard and Alberta Street "within an hour of putting that information out," according to Portland Police spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Allen. Investigators then determined the suspects were likely in a home in the 500 block of Northeast Webster. SWAT helped serve a search warrant at the house and police detained 12 people late Friday night. They also found four guns during the search, including at least one with a drum magazine attached. Sgt. Allen said police believe at least some of the firearms they recovered were involved in some of the armed robbery crimes. Four teens from Seattle, Washington were booked into the Donald E. Long Detention Center on the following charges: A 17-year-old was charged with Second-Degree Attempted Murder, and two counts of First-Degree Robbery. A 16-year-old was charged with two counts of First-Degree Robbery. A 15-year-old was charged with Second-Degree Attempted Murder, and two counts of First-Degree Robbery. A 17-year-old was charged with First-Degree Robbery, First-Degree Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon. "The officers who responded to this call, and then the detectives who responded to this call and put in a lot of work put themselves in a position to have a success in really an incredible amount of time," said Allen. "Less than 19 hours after the initial call came out at this gas station, that [a] clerk that works here had been shot and injured, we had multiple suspects in custody, and the amount of work that went into this is really extraordinary." As of Saturday afternoon, only three of the teenagers were tied to the gas station robbery and shooting on Friday. However, all four were connected to a separate gas station robbery earlier in the week on July 14, Allen said. "[The suspects] were tied to numerous other crimes, including a carjacking that happened on Tuesday," Allen said. "There was also a robbery of another gas station where a clerk was pistol whipped and injured by the robbery crew. There was another case where a victim who had interrupted a car prowl was menaced with a firearm by multiple suspects." He continued, "so some of the juveniles were charged with some of the crimes related to those cases, but not all of them." During the warrant search, Portland Police also arrested a 36-year-old man who was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police released details about four other crimes, saying evidence from the July 17 robbery and shooting helped detectives quickly connect the case to these other crimes: Carjacking On Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at 12:36 a.m., Portland Police Officers from North Precinct responded to a report of a robbery at gunpoint of a car, which was determined to have taken place at Northeast 73rd Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street. The driver, who was working for a rideshare service at the time, was approached by multiple armed suspects, who robbed him and left with his car. The victim ran away on foot and suffered minor injuries when he fell trying to get away from the suspects (26-203719). Menacing That same day, Tuesday, July 14, at 3:31 p.m., Portland Police Officers from North Precinct responded to a report of a menacing with a handgun in the 6100 block of Northeast 31st Avenue. The victim reported that he interrupted a group of suspects trying to break into his vehicle in his driveway. The group ran and jumped into another vehicle, and multiple suspects in the vehicle pointed handguns at the victim as they drove away. No one was injured (26-204276). Robbery Later on Tuesday July 14, at 10:58 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to North Precinct responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station convenience store in the 3400 block of Northeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. Officers' investigation revealed that multiple suspects robbed the store at gunpoint, pointed guns at the store employee, and one suspect struck the victim in the head with a pistol. The employee was evaluated by paramedics at the scene for injuries, but declined ambulance transport (26-204701). Suspicious Circumstances On Friday, July 17, 2026 at 4:24 a.m., North Precinct Officers responded to a suspicious circumstances call at a convenience store in the 5800 block of Northeast Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard where a group of suspects wearing masks approached the front door and tried to get in. However, the door was locked and they left. Officers, anticipating the possibility that the crew would try another robbery soon, began actively looking for the suspects (26-207084). Sergeant Allen said investigators have a lot of work to do following yesterday's arrests and after analyzing evidence. "They'll be working on this probably for a long time going forward, collaborating with our partners at the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office to hopefully successfully prosecute some of these cases," he said. "We expect some of these charges may change, some charges may be added. Additional arrests are possible and that effort is continuing." According to Allen, investigators are still working to determine a motive for the crimes and the Seattle teens' connection to Portland. "As a citizen of this community and as a police officer and a dad, it is hard for me to imagine how this can happen, and I certainly understand the community's alarm when they hear about this," Allen said. "All I can say is that, you know, we certainly hope these kids get the help that they need, because the activities that they were engaged in were causing incredible harm to the community."
