Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan have signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, creating a new security pact that pledges mutual defense against armed attacks. Analysts are debating whether this represents a significant regional realignment or a limited response to ongoing geopolitical turbulence.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (MJDA), signed on August 7, 2026, by the top leaders of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, is the first regional realignment since the geostrategic tsunami of the United States-Iran war. While the MJDA text has not been revealed, the joint statement issued specifically states that “any armed attack against any one of the three states shall be regarded as an attack against them all”.
