Amanda Holden slams 'nepo-baby' critics over daughter Lexi's modelling career

Amanda Holden has slammed ‘nepo-baby’ criticism being aimed at her daughter Lexi over her modeling career. The Britain’s Got Talent judge has been married to her husband Chris Hughes since 2008. They welcomed their first daughter, Lexi, into the world in 2006 before they got married. Amanda and Chris went on to have their second daughter, Hollie, in 2012. Sadly, Amanda tragically suffered a stillbirth in February 2011, when she was seven months pregnant with her son Theo. Recent years have seen her begin pursuing a career in modelling. Lexi signed Storm Management in February 2022, who launched careers of the likes of Kate Moss and Cindy Crawford. Back in 2024, she got to walk at the prestigious London Fashion Week. However, some have criticised the fast ascent of Lexi’s career due to her mum being one of the UK’s biggest TV stars. The term nepo-baby is used to describe the children of celebrities who have gained entry into notoriously difficult industries due to their family connections. When asked her thoughts on the nepo-baby term, Amanda revealed : "Being someone's kid is not going to secure work, make a living for you and longevity in whatever career." She added: "It may get a foot in the door, but then you're on your own, so I think it's unfair to sort of single out showbusiness or the music industry, because they're the worst businesses to be in!" Speaking to the Daily Mail, Amanda pointed out that everyone uses connections to get further in life. Amanda noted that many of her colleagues at Global Radio Studios, where she hosts Heart Breakfast, have done the same thing. She explained: "At Global, this is the week where the kids come in to make the tea and coffee and see how it all works. Everyone has such tenuous connections and it's brilliant, we welcome them with open arms. "Hollie is going to be doing this next year, but any kid that I know - if they needed a hand, the door is open. If I can help anyone, I'll do it. It's not just my own kids, it's my friends' kids." Amanda continued: "I just hate the term nepo baby because it's up to them to make it on their own. And it's often worse having a famous parent, it's not often a good thing." According to Amanda, Hollie is embarrassed to have a famous mum, going as far as to drop her off at the end of the road when they’re going places. Amanda did note that her younger daughter still makes the most of her fame at times. "She loves it when it can get her into like the theatre for like The Stranger Things premiere or something, but yeah, she hates it the rest of the time,” she said.
