An entire world of fungi nearly a third of a mile underground could affect carbon storage estimates

University of Michigan researchers have identified a vast, complex ecosystem of fungi and other microorganisms living nearly 1,640 feet below the Earth's surface. This discovery suggests that deep subsurface life is more abundant than previously estimated and could significantly impact global carbon cycle models.
