Andy Moran is the man tasked with ending Mayo's 75-year wait for an All-Ireland Football Final victory. A legendary player for the county, Andy has brought a wealth of experience to the managerial role since taking charge last year. Away from GAA , Andy keeps himself busy with family commitments and his work as a gym owner. Here is everything you need to know about him: Andy Moran was born on November 2 1983, making him 42 years old, reports RSVP Live. He hails from Ballaghadarreen in Roscommon and began his footballing journey with his local club, which competes in Mayo — the reason he chose to represent them rather than Roscommon at inter-county level. Andy made his senior inter-county debut in 2004. He claimed All-Star awards in both 2011 and 2017, along with the Footballer of the Year accolade, before hanging up his boots in 2019. He also accumulated eight Connacht championships and featured in six All-Ireland finals, yet never got his hands on the Sam Maguire cup. Andy embarked on his coaching career in 2020, taking the reins of the Mayo U20s, before stepping up to become Leitrim senior manager in 2021. In 2024, he joined the backroom staff of Monaghan's coaching set-up before being handed the Mayo top job in August 2025. A statement from Mayo GAA said at the time: "Following a comprehensive and robust recruitment process, and in line with the appointment guidelines, Mayo GAA will be proposing Andy Moran for ratification as the new Mayo senior football manager at the next meeting of the Mayo GAA County Board. "Andy Moran is one of Mayo's most decorated and respected former players. "Colm Boyle and Paddy Tally will be involved in Moran's set-up. "Andy Moran and his backroom team bring a wealth of experience from both playing and coaching at the highest levels of inter-county football. "Andy Moran has gained management and coaching experience with both Monaghan and Leitrim in recent years. Their combined knowledge, leadership and proven track records will be invaluable in driving the continued development and success of Mayo football. He wed his wife Jennifer in 2012 and the couple have a daughter, Charlotte, and a son, Ollie. The pair exchanged vows in his hometown of Ballaghaderreen, with 300 guests joining them for the wedding reception at Kilronan Castle. Outside of GAA, Andy runs his own gym business. He is the owner of The Movement Gyms in Claremorris and Castlebar.
