'Awful': Two killed in North Shore home, man charged with murder

A 41-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder following a violent incident in Auckland. Police confirmed the victims and the offender were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
<p>A 41-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder, and a homicide investigation launched, after two people were found dead in Auckland's Glenfield overnight.</p> <p>Police were initially called to a residential address on Seon Place in Birkdale at around 8.21pm after reports a person had been stabbed.</p> <p>Waitematā police Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said a man at the address sustained moderate injuries. </p> <p>"Police arrested the alleged offender at the property," she said. </p> <p>"While speaking with this male, information has prompted us to dispatch a unit to a property at Lingfield Street in Glenfield to conduct a welfare check."</p> <p>Tragically two people, a man and woman, were found dead at that address. </p> <p>"This is an awful set of events. I know this will leave many in our community unsettled, but what I can say at this early stage of the investigation is that the offender and victims are all known to each other," Goldie said. </p> <p>"While there will be an increased Police presence around Birkdale and Glenfield, there is no ongoing threat to the wider community."</p> <p>The victim from Seon Place was currently recovering in hospital.</p> <p>A scene guard is in place at both addresses, and police would be conducting scene examinations over the coming days as well. </p> <p>Post-mortem examinations would take place in due course, which will include formal identification procedures, Goldie said. </p> <p>A 41-year-old man appeared in the North Shore District Court today charged with two counts of murder as well as attempted murder. He was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody until his next appearance at the High Court on August 19.</p> <p>1News footage from Lingfield Street in Glenfield showed police officers at the property. It was cordoned off around 9pm yesterday. </p> <p>A neighbour told 1News a husband and wife aged in their 60s had lived at the property for some time, and the pair had two adult sons. </p> <p>St John said it sent one ambulance, one operations manager and one rapid response unit to the scene. </p>
