Awoodda Shacabka Party Withdraws from the Haybad Qaran Alliance

Somalia, 2 August 2026 - Somalia's Awoodda Shacabka Party has announced that it is ending its membership in the Haybad Qaran Alliance, citing political differences over the direction of the coalition. The party said it initially joined the alliance because it viewed it as a platform that could help advance a political settlement based on consultation, state-building and the will of the Somali people. According to a statement issued by the party, it had during its time in the alliance put forward proposals and positions focused on national stability, unity and resolving political disagreements through dialogue. The party, however, said its assessment changed following political developments after the Haybad Qaran Alliance aligned itself with the Future Council. Awoodda Shacabka also criticised a proposal issued by the Future Council on July 28 calling for the creation of an interim council to assume leadership of the country. The party described the proposal as unlikely to contribute to Somalia's state-building process, according to its statement. The party further said the Haybad Qaran Alliance had not clearly stated its position on the proposal, which it identified as one of the factors behind its decision to leave. Following consultations among the party's leadership and committees, Awoodda Shacabka said it had decided to withdraw from the alliance. The party said its decision was based on what it described as principles and national responsibility, stressing that Somalia's broader national interest should take precedence. The withdrawal comes amid continuing debate over the direction of Somalia's opposition, the country's political future and the broader state-building process.
