Bengaluru class 8 girl dies by suicide; death note cites ‘humiliation’ at school
AI Summary

A 14-year-old student in Bengaluru died by suicide after allegedly facing humiliation and unfair treatment at her government school. Local authorities are investigating the incident following the discovery of a death note and a formal complaint lodged by the student against school staff.

BENGALURU: Devastated by alleged humiliation in school, a class 8 student ended her life by hanging at her house in Anekal, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, Wednesday night.Madhushree S, 14, was a student of Marasuru Govt Higher Primary School. She was found hanging by her elder sister early Thursday.Police said the girl has left behind a note that points to distress caused in the school. “I can’t live with this humiliation,” she said in the note.“The incident (linked to discipline) at school has shattered me. They have blamed me for something I never did. It hurts too much. That’s why I am taking this step,” the note said.Offering apologies to her mother and siblings, the note said, “Please take care of them. Nobody should scold my mother. I feel I don’t deserve to live on this earth anymore. Amma and everyone else, please forgive me.”Before taking the drastic step, Madhushree reportedly approached the school’s headmaster and lodged a formal complaint against certain teachers. In her complaint, she alleged the staff members were treating Class 8 students poorly and targeting them unfairly.Police recovered two notes from the student’s house: death note and complaint from Class 8 students to the panchayat development officer. We are verifying both notes, which appear to be in different handwritings. A report will be filed to the BEO about the notes.” A case of unnatural death has been registered. The girl was living with her grandparents, mother, two sisters and a brother. Her mother had gone to her parental house due to health issues. The grandparents, her sisters, and her brother were sleeping in the hall while she ended her life in a room, police added.Block education officer Gurumurthy said he visited the school, interacted with students, and will submit a report to the deputy director of public instruction on Friday.“Some students said Madhushree had confided in friends that she was abused by teacher Kavitha and assistant cook Kamalamma at the school. We heard that the assistant cook has been abusive and keeps saying the batch is not good. I have ordered her immediate removal from the job,” he said.It is not unusual for teachers to advise students — especially in early high-school days — on good behaviour in class. But Kavitha (guest teacher) is believed to have shouted at this student. We believe this is not the only cause for the incident since the death note speaks of a different reason. We are still checking whether she had personal or family issues that led her to this extreme step,” he added. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Bengaluru | Silver Rate in Bengaluru | Bank Holidays in Bengaluru | Public Holidays in Bengaluru | Bengaluru AQI | Weather in Bengaluru | Petrol Price in Bengaluru | Diesel Price in Bengaluru | CNG Price in Bengaluru | LPG Price in BengaluruStay updated with the latest Bengaluru news.
