BFL board pushes back against motion of no confidence

There were attempts to pass a vote of no confidence on the BFL board led by Sipho Showa, but the move did not materialise. According to Saturday's agenda, there is no room for a motion of no confidence again, with Showa indicating that it is not provided for in the constitution."It has never been and will not be (in the agenda) for the simple reason that there is no provision in the BFL constitution for a motion of no confidence to be used to create a vacancy or vacancies on the board. The unfairness of a motion of no confidence mechanism is that the mover becomes the complainant, prosecutor, and judge, which is against the principle of natural justice," Showa said."The BFA Arbitration Tribunal exists to ensure fairness; that is why any aggrieved party must go there for a remedy instead of taking matters into their own hands," he added.Showa has already written to Matebele chairperson, Lame Makache, telling him that there is no place for a motion of no confidence on Saturday. According to a letter dated July 27, 2026, Showa engages Makache on the absence of a provision for a motion of no confidence."The clauses in the BFL constitution that shareholders are the supreme decision-making body do not mean that they can undermine or disregard powers that are for other BFL structures. Therefore, your interpretation of the clauses is incorrect," he said in the letter. "Your unsubstantiated allegation of financial mismanagement by the board is denied in its entirety," he further said. The AGM, expected to start at 8am and end around 4pm, could provide flash moments just like the shareholders' gathering two weeks ago. Knives are still out for Showa with some shareholders pushing for his board's ouster, arguing they had failed to govern the league body.Despite indications that a motion to push for an increase of FNB Premiership teams from 16 to 18 will fail, the proposal will be on the table on Saturday.
