Building collapses in Anfield live updates as main road closes

A main road through Anfield has been blocked by the collapse of a building. Emergency services were called to Townsend Lane at around 1.45pm today, July 15. The above floor of Jovan's Townsend Kitchen, an African café at the junction of Townsend Lane and Empress Road, has crumbled into the road. Pictures taken at the scene by an ECHO photographer show the wall on the building's upper floor has fallen away, leaving bricks, timber and debris scattered across the pavement below. A road closure is currently in place between Lampeter Road and Canon Road, Merseyside Police confirmed. Online traffic monitor INRIX reports traffic congestion in both directions due to the incident.
