Castro: Lacson won't compromise Taguig flood control probe

MANILA, Philippines - Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro believes that Sen. Panfilo Lacson would not 'compromise' his goal to investigate questionable flood control projects in Taguig City just to improve his relations with Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.Taguig City is Cayetano's bailiwick. The senator's wife, Lani, is the city mayor. Lacson did not seek a Senate inquiry on the reported irregularity in Taguig City and conducted his own probe. Cayetano said he was open to any inquiry.During a press briefing on Tuesday, Castro was asked about the Palace reaction on the recent senators' caucus wherein they reportedly discussed efforts to patch things up between Lacson and Cayetano, who earlier engaged in 'a word war' over Senate leadership and other matters.However, some sectors expressed concern that the investigation on the some of the alleged anomalous flood control projects in Taguig City would be compromised if Lacson and Cayetano end their dispute.'Their working relations will improve if they will make peace with each other and their personal sentiments with each other will be gone,' Castro said in Filipino.'Pero naniniwala tayo na sa pagkatao po ni Senator Lacson hindi po siya makikipag-compromise para lang mawala ang kaniyang pag-iimbestiga (But we believe that based on the character of Senator Lacson, he will not enter into any compromise just to abandon his investigation [on the controvery],' Castro said.'So, we believe that the investigation on these issues would continue. We also know that he will proceed with this [probe] if there are evidence [to support it],' the Palace Press Officer added.
