Computer-based NEET? Govt tells SC decision after Nilekani report

NEW DELHI: Centre Tuesday told Supreme Court that while the proposal to shift NEET from pen-and-paper mode to computer-based mode is under consideration, the final decision will be taken only after getting the report of the Nandan Nilekani-led high-powered task force set up to overhaul India's public examination systems.In an affidavit, govt briefed SC on measures taken to make the exam foolproof, including stringent penal provisions against use of unfair means and setting up of task force. It was responding to a plea by All India Medical Association seeking a more secure NEET following this year's paper leak.Govt said: "Migration from pen-and-paper mode to a computer-based mode, whether in single-stage or two-stage exam on the pattern of JEE, is presently under consideration by all stakeholders." The final approach, it added, would be adopted after considering the task force's recommendations.It said NTA has migrated seven of its eight major exams to computer-based testing.
