Cong. stages protest in Srikakulam over India-U.S. farm deal
Congress party leaders and other organizations held protests in Srikakulam against a proposed India-U.S. free trade agreement. Protesters fear the deal will negatively impact Indian farmers by allowing cheap agricultural imports.
Srikakulam District Congress Committee president Sanapala Annaji Rao and Srikakulam District Kisan Congress president Kota Madhusudan on Wednesday alleged that the Indian government was compromising on the interests of 11 crore farmers of India as it is all set to have a free trade agreement on July 24 in spite of stiff resistance from all sections of the society. Along with representatives of CPI, CPIM and other organisations, the Congress party leaders organised a massive protest in Srikakulam.
