'Diplomatic premises are inviolable': India condemns embassy defacement in Slovenia

NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs on Monday condemned the defacement of the Indian Embassy premises in Slovenia's Ljubljana, by "anti-India elements", and urged Slovenian authorities to take action against those responsible.In a statement, the MEA said, "We condemn the defacement of the premises of our Embassy in Ljubljana, Slovenia by anti-India elements."Highlighting the protections accorded to diplomatic missions under international law, the ministry said, "Under the Vienna Convention, diplomatic premises are inviolable and must be protected."The MEA said it has taken up the matter with Slovenian authorities in both New Delhi and Ljubljana and called for those behind the incident to be held accountable."We have taken up the matter strongly with Slovenian authorities, both in New Delhi and in Ljubjlana so that the perpetrators behind such reprehensible acts are held accountable," it said.The ministry also urged law enforcement agencies in other countries to remain alert as hateful propaganda and disinformation being circulated by such groups."We also call upon law enforcement authorities elsewhere to take note of the hateful propaganda and disinformation being spread by such groups," the MEA said.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
