Djibouti Activates Task Force to Address Economic Fallout From Middle East Tensions

DJIBOUTI, July 27, 2026 – Djibouti has activated an inter-ministerial task force to coordinate the government’s response to the economic effects of tensions in the Middle East, the state-run Djibouti News Agency (ADI) reported on Sunday, as regional instability threatens supply chains and trade flows. The task force, chaired by Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, brings together key ministries and public institutions to monitor developments and recommend measures aimed at limiting the impact on the country’s economy. The agency said the committee would assess risks to supplies of essential goods, monitor prices and inflation, and oversee contingency measures to maintain the flow of strategic imports through the country’s ports. ADI reported that the task force would also work with private-sector operators and relevant institutions to strengthen supply-chain resilience and ensure the continuity of economic activity. Djibouti’s economy depends heavily on its role as a regional logistics and maritime hub, with its ports serving neighbouring Ethiopia and international shipping routes through the Red Sea. The committee will continue monitoring developments in the Middle East and adjust its response as needed to mitigate further economic disruption.
