Dry and hot weather to begin in Latvia Sunday

Rain is still expected in many parts of Latvia on Saturday. Overnight into Saturday, rain is expected mainly in eastern Latvia, but during the day, it will fall mostly in the southern and central parts of the country. Overnight temperatures will drop to 10–15 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will reach +18 to +22 C, and up to +24 C in northern Vidzeme. Sunday will be mostly sunny, though brief showers and thunderstorms are possible in some areas in the afternoon. Temperatures will rise to +23 to +28 C. Since humidity will be high, the weather will feel muggy. The weather will be mostly sunny throughout the coming week. At the beginning and end of the week, humidity will be high, so thunderstorm clouds may form in some areas, and the weather will feel muggy. Throughout the week, afternoon highs will mostly range from +23 to +28 C, reaching up to +30 C in some areas on certain days. So far, this summer has been wetter and warmer than the climate norm. From June 1 through July 9, the average temperature nationwide was 1.2 degrees above the climate norm. Compared to last summer, this one is significantly warmer, as last year, from June 1 to July 9, the average air temperature was 0.4 degrees below the climate norm. In terms of precipitation, last summer was wetter in eastern Latvia, but this year has seen more rain in the central and western parts of the country. However, last year’s wet summer was largely due to an exceptionally rainy May, when precipitation across the country averaged 68% above the norm. This year’s spring was dry, so the rains experienced this week did not cause widespread flooding.
