ERC orders Meralco to refund P9.51 billion to customers

The Energy Regulatory Commission in the Philippines has ordered Meralco to refund 9.51 billion pesos to customers due to overrecoveries in 2025. The refund will be implemented over a six-month period and will appear as a specific line item on customer bills.
MANILA, Philippines - The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has ordered Meralco to refund P9.51 billion to its customers for overrecoveries for the period of January 2025 to December 2025.In a decision released on Sunday, the ERC directed Meralco to refund the total amount of P9,506,566,556 or an equivalent average refund rate of P0.3448 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for all customer classes.The refund scheme and implementation period shall be within 6 months, shorter than Meralco's proposed 36 months.Earlier this year, Meralco filed two petitions before the ERC proposing a refund of P4,689,435,330 for the January 2025 - June 2025 period, and a refund of P4,321,065,606 for July 2025-December 2025.The refund will appear as a separate line item labeled "AWAT (Refund)/Collect," allowing consumers to clearly see the amount being returned to them each month.
