Forward-deployed engineers (FDEs), specialists who implement AI models within client organizations, are becoming the most sought-after talent in the AI industry due to a critical shortage. A study estimates only 2,000 such engineers exist in the U.S., with demand projected to surge by 2,100% by year-end as enterprises focus on integrating AI into workflows for tangible returns.
Executive search firm Christian & Timbers estimates that there are only about 2,000 engineers in the U.S. with the special cocktail of sector know-how, gravitas, and hands-on applied AI experience needed to consistently help enterprises see a return on their AI expenditures.
