From 617 to 2,000 in 2025, Indians deported from US triple since 2023
Indian government data reveals that the number of Indians deported from the United States has tripled since 2023, reaching 2,025 in 2025. The Ministry of External Affairs is actively working to combat illegal human-trafficking syndicates and fake recruitment rackets.
NEW DELHI: Four hundred and fourteen Indians were deported from the US till the end of March 2026, EAM S Jaishankar informed Parliament on Thursday. Government data also showed deportations from the US rose sharply from 617 in 2023 to 1,368 in 2024 and 2,025 last year.After the US, the highest number of Indians were deported from the UK (57) and Cyprus (53) till March this year.Asked about action against organised human-trafficking and illicit travel-agent syndicates, Jaishankar said that till Oct 2025, a total of 3,505 unregistered agents had been notified on the eMigrate portal. "As and when complaints against illegal agents or dubious firms luring Indian nationals with false recruitment offers are received, such matters are referred to state police," he said.MEA also issues advisories through the eMigrate portal, social media and other platforms on the perils of fake job rackets and ways to avoid them.‘In touch with US over truckers’ issue’The issue of Indian truckers facing action in the US was raised in Parliament Thursday, with the govt saying it is in touch with US authorities regarding their identity and particulars.MoS (MEA) Kirti Vardhan Singh said 30 Indians were among 52 people arrested during Operation Checkmate in Arizona in May and would be deported.
