Brazil is expanding its agricultural exports beyond live animals by supplying embryos, semen and reproductive technologies tailored to tropical environments. African governments view genetic improvement as a strategic tool to reduce meat and dairy imports, although long-term success will require broader investment across livestock value chains. Botswana received its first shipment of 200 pregnant Girolando dairy cows from Brazil in mid-July, marking the launch of a program to import 1,000 head of cattle through the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC).
