Gen Katumba, Kyanda and 1,500 others set for UPDF retirement this month
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the retirement of 1,591 personnel, including 19 general officers and several high-ranking commanders. The exercise, which includes both senior leadership and junior cadres, is part of a tradition to honor military service and sacrifice.
Former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and current Minister of Public Service, Gen Katumba Wamala, is among 1,591 Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel scheduled to retire from active military service this month. The nationwide retirement exercise, announced by the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Col Chris Magezi, will affect military personnel across all ranks, spanning from top general officers down to privates stationed at various formations and units across the country.
