Goondas Act invoked against four persons
Coimbatore police have invoked the Goondas Act against four individuals involved in separate criminal cases, including cryptocurrency fraud and drug peddling. This preventive detention measure allows for longer custody of repeat or serious offenders.
Commissioner of Police (Coimbatore) N. Kannan has invoked the Goondas Act against four persons arrested in separate cases in Coimbatore city. A release from the police stated that V. Janagan (23) of Konganagiri in Tiruppur district, R. Bharath (26) of Palladam and M. Udayakumar (38) of Mayiladuthurai were recently arrested by the Coimbatore city cybercrime police for defrauding a non-resident Indian of ₹27.45 lakh on the pretext of facilitating cryptocurrency trading. Based on the recommendation of the cybercrime Inspector, Mr. Kannan invoked provisions of the Goondas Act against the trio. R. Kishore (22), who was arrested by the Kavundampalayam police on June 28 on the charge of peddling ganja, was also detained under the Goondas Act, said the release.
