Government orders blocking of 7,393 links involved in film pirac
The Indian government has ordered online intermediaries to block over 7,000 links, including Telegram channels and websites, to combat digital film piracy. This action follows recent amendments to the Cinematograph Act aimed at strengthening legal protections for intellectual property.
NEW DELHI: The government has directed online intermediaries to block 7,393 links involved in film piracy, including 4,996 Telegram channels and 1,263 websites, the information and broadcasting ministry told the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.This was disclosed in a written reply by minister of state for information and broadcasting, L Murugan, to a question on the circulation of pirated films, OTT shows and other audiovisual content through Telegram and similar platforms.The government said it had strengthened the legal framework against online film piracy through amendments to the Cinematograph Act in 2023.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
