AI Summary

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 32-year-old woman found in a Rockhampton apartment. Authorities have questioned her partner and are working to determine the cause of death.

A woman has been found dead in suspicious circumstances in central Queensland as police launch a major investigation. Officers were called to a ground floor apartment on Denham St in Rockhampton for a welfare check about 1.15pm on Wednesday after they received concerned calls from family members. When officers arrived they found the body of a 32-year-old woman, who police say had only recently moved to Rockhampton from interstate. Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow said the woman had sustained a serious head injury and was found with “blood pooling around her head”, adding that she may have been dead for over a day before police arrived. Besides from the woman’s injuries, he confirmed the death is being treated as suspicious “owing to the position of the body” and the homicide squad has been called in to help investigate. Shadlow said police have spoken to the woman’s 32-year-old male partner who also lives at the same address. He said the man is known to police, however Shadlow stressed no arrests or charges have been made. “We want to make sure that we do everything we can to try and establish the cause of death,” Shadlow said. “We don’t know the mechanism of the injury or the extent of the injury at this stage.” Shadlow also confirmed police had previously been called to the address some time ago “for a domestic violence incident”. “However, we’re still looking at investigations to establish whether that was related at all to this,” he said. Police were seen blocking off a nearby business, located in front of the apartment, as the crime scene was cordoned off. “A crime scene was declared while detectives investigate the circumstances of the woman’s death,” police said. “There is no ongoing threat to the public.” Anyone with any information that could assist police has been urged to come forward.
