India on track to meet 2030 renewable energy target: Union MoS for New and Renewable Energy
India has reached its 50% non-fossil fuel electricity capacity target five years ahead of the 2030 deadline. The government is now focusing on overcoming infrastructure challenges like land acquisition and grid integration to meet the 500 GW goal.
India has already achieved its target of 50% installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, five years ahead of the 2030 deadline, said Union Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power, Shripad Yesso Naik, on Wednesday (July 22, 2026). As of June 30, 2026, the country had installed 297.36 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity and 288.58 GW of renewable energy capacity, he added.
