Inducing transcription in a gene desert is associated with locally increased replication activity

Researchers investigated the relationship between transcription and DNA replication by inserting a reporter cassette into a gene-poor region of mouse embryonic stem cells. The study found that inducing transcription in these 'gene deserts' leads to a localized increase in replication activity.
