Inducing transcription in a gene desert is associated with locally increased replication activity

Researchers used a doxycycline-inducible system in mouse embryonic stem cells to study the relationship between gene transcription and DNA replication. They found that inducing transcription in a gene-poor region leads to a localized increase in replication activity, though it does not fully shift the region to an early-replicating state.
