UDUPI: A local Congress leader and contractor was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Karnataka's Udupi district, police said on Saturday.According to news agency PTI, the deceased was identified as David D'Souza, a former president of the Mudarangadi Village Panchayat. He also owned a bar and a public transport unit, police said.The incident occurred at Padubidri in Udupi on Friday afternoon.D'Souza had also been convicted in the suicide case of Rev Fr Mahesh, an assistant priest at a local church, and had served a jail term, sources said.According to police sources, two assailants arrived in a vehicle and opened fire at D'Souza, leaving him with severe bullet injuries.Although locals and authorities rushed him to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.Police said a multi-angle investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the murder, with both personal and business rivalries being examined.(With agency inputs)Stay updated with the latest Mangaluru news.
