Karnataka legislative council chairman Basavaraj Horatti resigns
Basavaraj Horatti has resigned as Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council after being pressured by the Congress-led government. Horatti, a former Janata Dal (Secular) member who joined the BJP in 2022, stated he was unaware of the specific reasons behind the demand for his resignation.
NEW DELHI: Congress leader Basavaraj Horatti on Friday tendered his resignation as Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council.Asked about the reason behind his decision, Horatti said, "I was asked to resign, so I tendered my resignation.""I don't know why they (the Congress government) asked me to resign," he added.Horatti also admitted that he was under pressure to resign.Horatti, who was previously with the Janata Dal (Secular), joined the BJP on May 18, 2022, a year before the Congress came to power in Karnataka.He said the Congress government, led by D K Shivakumar, mounted pressure on him ahead of the Legislative Council session beginning on August 13.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
