Latvia's Eurovision Supernova song cycle starts again soon

Supernova is the Latvian qualification show for the Eurovision Song Contest. Viewers and listeners will find out in November which participants selected by the anonymous jury will make the televised stages of the competition. In a new development, the Supernova final will take place not at Latvian Television's studios but on February 6th at the Xiaomi Arena to allow for a large number of ticket sales to be made. Another new feature will be the way the winner is decided. The February 6th show will include both a 'Grand Final' to pick three acts and then a 'Super Final' to finally determine the actual winner. "It will be a real music festival with magnificent surprises and special musical guests. For artists, it is a great opportunity to perform their song in front of such a large audience, and for spectators in the arena - to see behind the scenes of the show and feel the energy of music in person," said Agnese Štrause-Kubliņa, Head of Entertainment and Documentary Content at LTV. Soloists, duets and groups with a maximum of six participants are invited to apply for this year's Supernova competition. Performers must be at least 18 years of age by April 15 next year. Songs submitted for the competition must not have been published, played or performed at public events before September 1st, 2026. Non-Latvian citizens have the opportunity to participate in the competition as songwriters, music authors or producers, but the percentage of 'foreign' copyright and related rights in the submitted song to non-residents may not exceed 49% of the total rights. Likewise, songs that were created in whole or in part using artificial intelligence are banned. Information about submitting songs and purchasing tickets is available at supernova.lsm.lv.
