Latvia's honorary consuls in Ukraine given awards

Latvia has awarded honorary consuls in Ukraine for their courageous work in coordinating humanitarian aid and supporting Latvian interests during the ongoing war. The awards recognize their contributions to the defense sector and bilateral cooperation.
“Honorary consuls have become the core and backbone of the Latvian-Ukrainian partnership. Their activities include not only receiving and coordinating humanitarian aid in the immediate frontline zone, but also addressing the interests of Latvian industry and providing all kinds of support to Latvian representatives in Ukraine. This selfless work is carried out during the war, when Ukrainian cities are constantly being shelled and soldiers and civilians are dying. Despite the direct proximity of Russian troops to Sloviansk and Zaporizhia, honorary consuls continue to courageously perform their duties in the immediate vicinity of the front,” said Melnis, who until recently was himself stationed in Ukraine as a Defence Sector Advisor in Kyiv.
