Makinde transfers power to deputy governor as Oyo Assembly approves annual leave

The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the request of Gov. Seyi Makinde to proceed on his annual leave to start on Aug. 10. The request letter, which was read to the Assembly during plenary on Thursday, also informed the lawmakers that in Makinde’s absence his Deputy, Mr Bayo Lawal, would oversee the affairs of the state. The Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary in the absence of the Speaker, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, read the governor’s letter before members. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor’s leave takes effect from Aug. 10 to Sept. 11., he will officially resume office on Sept. 14. The lawmakers tasked Lawal to oversee the day-to-day administration of the state, ensuring that government activities continue uninterrupted until Gov. Makinde resumes duty. The deputy speaker said that the legislative remained committed to sustaining cordial relations with the executive arm in the interest of the people of Oyo State. Hr also expressed confidence in the capacity of the deputy governor to provide effective leadership during the period as evident in the past.
