Man, 27, and woman, 31, die in horror Colombia paragliding crash as investigation launched

A man and a woman have sadly died after a horror crash while paragliding in Colombia . On Wednesday July 29 Jhon Jaider Zúñiga, 27, and Marines Ussa Sarria, 31, were set to enjoy a paragliding trip in the Farallones area of rural municipality of Piendamó in Cauca Department, Colombia. However, what should have been a fun activity turned fatal. The pair reportedly lost control of the wing of their paraglider during a manoeuvre high in the air and as a result crashed into a mountainside. Witnesses said they appeared to suddenly lose stability before plunging to the ground far below. Local people rushed to the scene after spotting them crash on the steep terrain. Rescuers carried the victims to waiting vehicles and raced them to hospital. Upon arrival at hospital Jhon was showing no vital signs. While Marines, who came from Piendamó, reached hospital at about 11.20am in a critical state. She suffered multiple traumatic injuries including, severe head injuries and several fractures. Doctors fought to stabilise her but despite their best efforts she died just minutes later. The authorities have launched a full technical inspection and gathered evidence. Possible causes under review include mechanical failure of the equipment, pilot error, or sudden strong winds. It remains unclear whether the pair was on a recreational flight or whether one was instructing the other. The Farallones hillside is a popular spot for paragliding because of its favourable air currents and mountain landscape, as reported by NeedToKnow. Experts stress the sport remains safe only with certified gear, strict protocols and constant checks on weather conditions.
