Man dies at Queensland ‘bush doof’ as police probe death, festival shut down

A man has died and another is under police guard after a “bush doof” on a Queensland property descended into chaos. Emergency crews were called to Hidden Camp — an off‑grid farmstay at Glenwood between Maryborough and Gympie — about 1.20am on Saturday after reports of a serious altercation during a late‑night rave. Police allege a fight broke out on stage before a 40‑year‑old Kallangur man fell up to two metres and died at the scene. A 33‑year‑old Burpengary man, who was also injured, was taken to Gympie Hospital and placed under police guard. He was in a stable condition. The property had publicly claimed it would be “closed” for a weekend of “R & R”, but drone images showed a sprawling neon‑lit crowd of hundreds at a two‑day festival called Rhythm of the Wild. The site had initially been advertised as being within the Gympie region however the exact location was only disclosed to ticket holders after purchase. On Saturday, organisers announced the event had been shut down. “It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of Rhythm of the Wild,” a post on the festival’s Facebook group read. “Due to the tragic passing of a valued member of our community, we ask that nobody comes to the property unless specifically requested.” Attendees were told to leave quietly and respectfully. “When you are able to leave, and it is safe for you to do so, we ask that you begin making your way off the property… there is to be no music or other activities taking place on site,” the post said. Police were seen speaking to guests — many in four‑wheel drives — as they exited through the main gates on Saturday morning. Anyone with any information or footage is asked to contact the police.
