Man killed in Beaumaris car crash identified as family reveals heartbreak over shock death

A Victorian man who died in a single vehicle crash in Melbourne overnight has been identified. Matt Barrett, a 38-year-old man from Blind Bight, was returning home from an eight-ball pool competition with a group of friends when the car he was in crashed into a tree in Beaumaris. WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Man dies in Beaumaris crash after pool competition The 23-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and remains under police guard in hospital, while a 45-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. Footage from the scene shows parts of the vehicle had been ripped off as the car careened off the road and into a tree. Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have launched an investigation into the crash and are urging anyone who was driving in the area at the time to check their dashcam for video. Barrett’s family released a statement this morning, saying he lived more in his years that most people do in a lifetime. “He was happiest, surrounded by the people he loved and made every one of us laugh every single day. Our lives will never be the same without him,” the statement read. Matt’s partner also added she does not want the 23-year-old driver painted in a bad light. She says he is a good guy and would be absolutely devastated about losing his friend.
