Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm explains that Victoria Beckham missed her wedding due to prior commitments involving David Beckham's FIFA ambassador duties in New York. Despite her absence, Beckham designed Chisholm's wedding dress and the two maintained contact throughout the day.

Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm is addressing why her longtime friend and former Spice Girl member Victoria Beckham wasn’t present at her wedding. The singer, known as Sporty Spice, married model and actor Chris Dingwall in July, sharing video of their special day with British Vogue. Chisholm also posted photos from their nuptials, as well as the wedding guests on her Instagram on Aug. 2. Among the friends who attended the nuptials were fellow Spice Girls Geri Halliwell-Horner, Emma Bunton and Melanie “Mel B” Brown. While Chisholm thanked Beckham in her Instagram caption for designing her “beautiful dress,” the singer-turned-fashion designer was nowhere in sight. During an interview on Australian radio station KIIS 1065, the hosts congratulated her on her wedding, before asking why Posh Spice was missing. “So, Victoria was very disappointed to not be there. She was with David (Beckham) in New York and it was the football final, the World Cup,” she said. “She tried to get out of it. She isn’t the biggest football fan, she won’t mind me telling you. But the family were there and David had commitments being an ambassador for FIFA.” She added that while she wasn’t in attendance, she designed her “gorgeous dress.” “And she was messaging me on the day, and I actually saw her when I was in Ibiza. So we had a little catch up,” Chisholm added. “So yeah, we were giving her updates and sending her pictures.” Victoria and David Beckham attended a number of FIFA World Cup matches, spotted in Los Angeles, Miami and the July 19 final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. During the final match, the couple were accompanied by their sons Cruz and Romeo Beckham. Chisholm, meanwhile, described her wedding as “amazing” and “perfect.” “My feet haven’t touched the ground, really, because we had a beautiful weekend with all our families and friends,” she said. She also shared that “there were several Spice Girls songs” played during her wedding. In another separate interview with Australia’s “The Smallzy Show,” she said that she “walked back up the aisle with my husband to ‘2 Become 1,’ played by a beautiful string quartet.” Additionally in her chat with KIIS 1065, the newlywed also addressed Halliwell-Horner wearing a white floral dress to her wedding. Chisholm said she did have a chat with her friend “because it is her favorite color, she wears it every day ... but she did have a beautiful floral dress on and it was white. But I did have a little giggle with her about that.”
