'Mother is IAS officer': Man drags girlfriend from car, hits her with brick in Kanpur

KANPUR: A 38-year-old woman was allegedly dragged out of a car and repeatedly struck with a brick by her alleged boyfriend following an argument while they were on their way to Brahmavart Ghat in Bithoor on Saturday evening.The woman allegedly locked the car from inside to protect herself. However, the accused first smashed the vehicle with a brick two or three times before opening the door, dragging her onto the road and repeatedly attacking her on the head and other parts of the body with the brick, police said.Hearing her screams, passers-by rushed to the spot, overpowered the accused and thrashed him before informing the police.The woman sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a private medical college for treatment.Police identified the accused as Devashish Nigam (38), a resident of Swaroop Nagar. According to police, Devashish had driven to IIT-Kanpur to pick up the woman, who works at the institute, after calling her to the main gate.Police said the two were travelling to Brahmavart Ghat in Bithoor when an argument broke out inside the car.
