Northeast monsoon preparedness measures to start early in Chennai
Greater Chennai Corporation is accelerating monsoon preparedness measures, including desilting water bodies and maintaining drainage infrastructure. Concerns have been raised by local representatives regarding increased flood risks due to ongoing construction projects like the elevated corridor and Metro Rail.
Restoration works worth ₹214 crore have been taken up in 83 of the 241 ponds maintained by Greater Chennai Corporation, with works completed in 49 ponds and under way in the remaining 34, as Mayor R. Priya, on Wednesday, reviewed the civic body’s Northeast monsoon preparedness.
