Orange alert issued for Kerala’s Palakkad district on Tuesday
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Kerala's Palakkad district due to persistent heavy rainfall. Local authorities have opened dam spillway shutters and advised residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant as water levels rise.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Palakkad district on Tuesday as heavy rain continued across the district on Monday. The spillway shutters of the Kanjirapuzha and Mangalam dams were raised following a rise in water levels. Three shutters of the Kanjirapuzha dam were opened by 10 cm each after the water level reached 96.16 metres against the full reservoir level of 97.50 metres. At Mangalam dam, all six spillway shutters were raised by 30 cm after the water level touched 76.81 metres.
