PD Act invoked against miller for diversion of custom-milled rice worth ₹ 27 crore

Police in Telangana have invoked the Preventive Detention Act against a rice mill owner for allegedly diverting over 7,600 metric tonnes of government-procured rice. The accused reportedly sold the stock illegally, causing a loss of ₹27 crore to the state exchequer.
Ramagundam Police Commissioner Ambar Kishor Jha on Monday issued orders invoking the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against a ‘habitual offender’ allegedly involved in repeatedly diverting custom-milled rice (CMR), ‘causing’ heavy loss to the State exchequer.
