Phil Jamieson of Grinspoon cancels remainder of solo tour after on-stage accident

Australian music star Phil Jamieson has been forced to cancel his 2026 Australian tour after fracturing his back in on-stage accident. The Grinspoon frontman was performing in Victoria’s Traralgon on Friday night when he slipped on stage and fell, hitting his back on a drum riser, which is a platform used to elevate the drummer for viewing purposes. The show was cancelled and Jamieson said he was rushed by ambulance to Latrobe Hospital, where doctors confirmed he fractured his L1 vertebra. Jamieson shared the story on social media, saying he was now expecting a long road to recovery. “I spent most of Friday in emergency getting different tests etc and by 4am I was confirmed to have fractured my L1 ,” he said. “With a prescription of bed rest and a long road to recovery. This means, sigh, that the tour is cancelled.” Jamieson was on his PJ AIR tour promoting his second solo album 10Charlie when the incident occurred, and was scheduled to play shows across Australia into September. “Venues/ticketing agencies should be in contact with you for refunds. No-one is more bummed about this than me, but I can’t stand up let alone play a gig at the moment,” he said. The singer has also been forced to cancel the launch party for 10Charlie, which will be released on Friday. “While we won’t be launch partying together anymore ... if you feel like wrapping your earholes around It, I would be grateful. Lots of work went into it and I love it.” Jamieson shared pictures of him holding a green pain relief whistle in a hospital bed, as well as X-rays of his spine. “Thanks to all who reached out. News travels fast in this game and I appreciate all the well-wishes and kind offers of help,” he said. Jamieson broke into the Aussie rock scene as frontman of Lismore band Grinspoon in the late 1990s, with hits including Just Ace, Ready 1 and Chemical Heart.
