PMAY-Urban: UP CM hands over first house keys in Ghaziabad - here's all you need to know

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday handed over the first set of keys to a house built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) at an event in the city, the first such handover since the scheme was launched 11 years ago, as reported by news agency ANI.The scheme, announced in 2015, aims to provide affordable housing to economically disadvantaged sections of society. Each flat is priced at Rs 6 lakh, with the Centre contributing Rs 2.5 lakh, the state government Rs 1 lakh, and the beneficiary paying the remaining Rs 2.5 lakh. To qualify, a family's annual income must be under Rs 4 lakh.The rollout was delayed for years due to slow disbursal of funds to the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) from the central and state governments, along with pending infrastructure work, such as power and water connections, that was to be carried out by the power department and UP Jal Nigam.With the CM's handover, GDA has now begun releasing possession of flats to beneficiaries. "We will soon start delivering units after the chief minister handed over keys to Krishna Kumar, one of the beneficiaries under our Madhuban Bapudham housing scheme," an official said.Under the Madhuban Bapudham scheme, GDA has built 856 units, and 528 units are ready in Newari. However, 2,112 units across three other schemes, Dasna, Noor Nagar and Pratap Vihar, remain incomplete.The CM also inaugurated or laid foundation stones for 90 projects worth Rs 868 crore, including the Hapur Chungi flyover and multi-level parking at Rajnagar District Centre. The Hapur Chungi flyover, to be built for Rs 125 crore, will bypass a traffic-heavy roundabout where roads from Kavinagar, RNE, the DM office and the police line converge. The 1.2 km, four-lane flyover will enable free traffic flow towards the police line.The multi-level parking facility at Rajnagar District Centre will be built under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model, where a private entity funds, builds and operates the facility, recovering costs through user fees before transferring it to GDA.Other projects include new roundabouts and the 1.5 km Northern Peripheral Road and Hum-Tum Road, which, along with the outer ring road, will connect Ghaziabad to Meerut.Who qualifies for PMAY-Urban, and how to applyEligibility under PMAY-U is based on annual household income: Economically Weaker Section (up to Rs 3 lakh), Low Income Group (Rs 3-6 lakh), Middle Income Group-1 (Rs 6-12 lakh), and Middle Income Group-2 (Rs 12-18 lakh).Applicants and their families must not own a pucca house anywhere in India, must not have availed any prior central housing scheme, and the family unit must comprise husband, wife and unmarried children residing in a scheme-covered town or city.Applicants can register on the PMAY-U 2.0 website, choose from four verticals, complete an eligibility check, and give Aadhaar consent before filling a beneficiary survey form.Required documents include Aadhaar, income proof, identity and residence proof, income-category certificates, salary slips, IT returns, bank statements, and affidavits confirming the applicant doesn't own a pucca house.Ready to Make a Smarter Property Decision?
