Pocso Act: TV actor arrested for sexually harassing 16-year-old

MUMBAI: A television actor has been arrested by the city police for allegedly stalking, repeatedly calling, harassing and assaulting a 16-year-old girl in an eastern suburb. Police have booked him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.The actor, Rohit Chandel (29), played Baji Rao in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal and Dhawal Makwana in Pandya Store.Besides the stringent Pocso Act, Pant Nagar Police have also invoked the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 78 and 115 (2) for stalking and causing hurt.Chandel was arrested from his Dahisar home on Friday and produced before the special Pocso court which remanded him to police custody.According to the complaint lodged by a resident of an eastern suburb, the accused had allegedly repeatedly called the minor on her mobile phone from his number as well as several other numbers, allegedly harassing her.The complaint further alleges that on July 5, he confronted the girl near her residential building, chased her, picked up an argument, abused her, and assaulted her by hitting her with his hands.Police said the minor and the accused were acquainted. “Following the complaint, a case was registered and the accused has been placed under arrest.
