Researchers Build a Low-Visibility Drone That Uses Motion Blur, Not Camouflage

Researchers at Northwestern University have developed a drone called Phantom Twist that utilizes motion blur to remain nearly invisible to the human eye. By counter-rotating its body against its propeller, the drone creates a visual haze that exploits human perceptual blind spots.

Northwestern University engineers asked a different question: what if the drone was already there and you simply couldn’t process it? Their answer, Phantom Twist, is a UAV designed not around radar or camouflage but around the blind spots in human vision.
