Salem court fines ex-MLA, his wife for land encroachment
A Salem court has fined former DMDK MLA R. Mohanraj and his wife, M. Unnamalai, ₹15,000 each for a land encroachment case dating back to 2011. The couple was found guilty of damaging a compound wall to occupy a parcel of land.
A court in Salem on Thursday fined a former DMDK MLA and his wife for land encroachment. R. Mohanraj (72) is a resident of Alagapuram who served as DMDK MLA from Salem II constituency between 2011 and 2016. His wife is M. Unnamalai (69). According to the prosecution, they damaged the compound wall of a parcel of land and encroached upon it in 2011. Based on a complaint from the land owner, Rajamanickam, the Alagapuram police booked Mohanraj and Unnamalai. The trial was held at Salem Judicial Court I, which, on Thursday, imposed a fine of ₹15,000 each on the duo.
