<p>Samsung unveiled a new approach to sharpen and strengthen the complex displays of <a href="https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-foldable-phones" target="_self">foldable phones</a>: making them a little more metal.</p><p>Just over a week before it will show off its latest Galaxy devices at a <a href="https://www.pcmag.com/news/samsung-tips-july-22-unpacked-event-london-next-gen-foldables-2026" target="_self">July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event in London</a>, the Korean tech conglomerate today announced what it's calling Samsung Flex Titanium technology. This design, building on "seven generations of foldable innovation and engineering expertise," will deliver a more durable folding screen with a less visible crease that can use significantly less electricity, Samsung says.</p><p>Flex Titanium-based phones will embed <a href="https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/titanium" target="_self">this metal</a> in two layers of the display. One will be a titanium-alloy film, a third as thick as a human hair, thanks to what Samsung describes as a "precision rolling process," nestled below the <a href="https://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia/term/oled" target="_self">OLED</a> panel. The company says this film brings 20 times more mechanical rigidity than the polymer film used before. The second layer will fit below the titanium-alloy film: a flexible titanium plate that Samsung says will bond with the display without leaving any air gaps. </p><script>
