Senator dumps APC one year after for PDP

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi , representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), barely 12 months after joining the ruling party, citing alleged breach of agreements, lack of internal democracy and loss of confidence in the party’s leadership in Osun State. The Nation recalled that Fadeyi dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July for the APC, citing deepening internal crises, prolonged litigations, and a lack of leadership in the PDP as reasons for his exit. However, Fadeyi lost his APC re-election ticket to Osogbo-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Barr Kunle Adegoke in May 2026. He also disclosed that he has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The senator said he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his ancestral home, which falls within Osun Central Senatorial District, after receiving assurances that he would secure the party’s senatorial ticket for the 2027 election. However, Fadeyi alleged that the Osun APC leadership reneged on the agreement by failing to conduct the promised consensus process and transparent primary election, a development he said created “serious trust issues” and made his continued membership of the party impossible. He expressed disappointment that while return tickets were allegedly granted to another serving senator and three members of the House of Representatives who defected alongside him, his own ticket was withheld without any explanation. The lawmaker said the decision left many unanswered questions, noting that he had earned the confidence of the people of Osun Central after defeating an incumbent APC senator from Osogbo during the 2023 general election and expected his performance, loyalty and electoral value to receive fair consideration. Despite quitting the APC, Fadeyi stressed that he remained “100 per cent committed” to President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda, insisting that his resignation should not be interpreted as opposition to the President or his administration. --> --> TAGS: PDP
