'Sit down!' The bizarre moment Aussie MP snaps at dog during interview

A television interview with Australian One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce took an unexpected turn when his dog interrupted him twice as he defended <a href="https://www.1news.co.nz/2026/07/20/heat-on-pauline-hanson-for-insane-trans-migration-comments/">Pauline Hanson</a> over her meeting with a controversial far-right UK activist. Joyce, who recently joined Hanson’s <a href="https://www.1news.co.nz/2026/06/02/high-polling-pauline-hanson-wants-to-lead-australians-who-assimilate/" target="_blank">right-wing One Nation party</a>, was questioned by ABC News about Hanson’s appearance on Tommy Robinson’s podcast during a trip to the UK. Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, had multiple criminal convictions and was a prominent anti-immigration figure in the UK. Joyce rejected suggestions that Hanson had crossed a line by meeting Robinson, saying the interview did not mean she endorsed his views or actions. As ABC presenter Sarah Ferguson pressed him on his defence of Hanson, Joyce suddenly looked off to the side and yelled "Sit down!" "Sorry, it's the dog," he said with a laugh. The dog interrupted again while Joyce was being questioned about a One Nation proposal concerning visa overstayers and the health system. "I have to apologise for this dog, it's just starting to bail up," Joyce said, prompting Ferguson to reply: "Don't worry about the dog, just answer the question." "Oh don't be rude, otherwise this interview will come to a grinding halt, Sarah," Joyce fired back. As the interview ended, Ferguson assured him the dog had been “no problem”. Founded by Hanson in the 1990s, One Nation is a right-wing Australian political party which campaigns heavily on reducing immigration and opposing multiculturalism. Joyce, a former Australian deputy prime minister and longtime National Party MP, joined the party earlier this year. The bizarre TV exchange is the latest in a string of Australian political interviews to go viral. Last year, Independent MP Bob Katter raised his fist and threatened to punch a Nine News journalist during a press conference.
