Stabbing horror and fatal crash minutes apart linked in Tasmania’s north as investigations intensify

Officers are probing two linked incidents after a woman was stabbed and a man died in a head‑on crash minutes later in Tasmania. Tasmania Police say a serious stabbing and a fatal head-on crash in the state’s north are linked after two women were seriously injured and a man died at the scene. Emergency services were called to a home in Exeter about 4.30pm on Friday after reports a woman had suffered “serious stab wounds”. Police say “initial investigations indicate the injuries were inflicted by a man known to the woman.” She was taken to hospital and is in a critical condition. A crime scene has been declared at the property. Investigators believe the 46-year-old man from WA left the Exeter home and, minutes later, collided head‑on with another vehicle on the West Tamar Highway at Legana. “Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene,” police said. The driver of the other vehicle — a woman in her 30s — sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Police say she is in a serious condition. Officers remained at the crash site late into the night as investigations into both the stabbing and the collision continue. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
